I-Ching Oracle includes the public website and the I Ching Oracle Space mobile apps. Free website casts stay in your browser unless you choose to share them. Mobile journal data stays on your device. Oracle Reflection is an optional online feature: app version 0.2.1 and earlier sends after a cast when the completed reading first opens online, while version 0.2.2 and later sends only when you have allowed online reflection and set that reading to Online reflection. Website membership separately adds account-backed storage for saved readings, notes, and billing.

What the Free Site Uses

Free Casts

Free readings are generated in the browser. The cast itself is not uploaded to a server just because you ask a question.

Share Links and PDFs

If you choose to share a reading, the share link contains the reading data needed to reconstruct it. If you print or save a PDF, that file is yours to keep on your own device or storage.

Analytics

The site uses Cloudflare Web Analytics and Google Analytics 4 for broad traffic and performance measurement. Question text is not sent to either of those website analytics products. Google Analytics is configured without advertising personalization signals and is not loaded when Do Not Track is enabled. Oracle Reflection processing and diagnostics are described separately below.

I Ching Oracle Space Mobile App

Local Journal Data

The mobile app stores questions, readings, private notes, favorites, settings, and successful Oracle Reflection text in its local database on your device. It does not require a mobile account or sync this local journal to the website membership journal. Your operating system may include app data in a device or cloud backup according to your Apple or Google settings.

Oracle Reflection

Oracle Reflection behavior depends on the app version installed on your device. In version 0.2.1 and earlier, when a completed reading first opens while connected, the app automatically sends the question you entered, if any, and reading context over HTTPS. In version 0.2.2 and later, the app first asks whether to allow online reflection or keep readings offline; before each cast, you can set that reading to Online reflection or Stay offline. A request is sent only when consent is enabled and that reading is set to Online reflection. You can withdraw consent in Settings to stop future requests.

An online request includes the casting method, six line values, primary and relating hexagrams, changing lines, relevant I Ching text, and the question if you entered one. The I-Ching Oracle API uses Cloudflare Workers AI to process this information and generate Oracle Reflection. Private notes, favorites, and unrelated journal entries are not included. A successful reflection is saved locally with the reading. Withdrawing consent does not remove reflection text already stored on your device; it remains until you delete that reading or clear the app's local data.

Update Checks and External Links

On Android, the app checks a public version file for update notices. Public website, support, X, and Pinterest links open only when you choose them. The app does not add local journal data to those links. External services operate under their own privacy policies.

Oracle Reflection Diagnostics and Retention

We do not write the full question, full Oracle Reflection request, or full response to a membership or application database; they are processed transiently to answer the request. Each online request supplies standard network information to Cloudflare, including an IP address and User-Agent. For abuse prevention, the service uses the IP address, or a shortened User-Agent only if no IP address is available, as a temporary in-memory rate-limit key. That key expires with the short rate-limit window and is not written to Analytics Engine. Cloudflare also processes approximate country for routing, security, and the limited diagnostics described below.

Cloudflare Analytics Engine records limited request, success, fallback, and failure events; casting method; primary and relating hexagram numbers; changing-line count; whether a question was supplied; approximate country; model and token metrics; and generic error details. Raw question text, generated reflection text, private notes, account identifiers, and payment information are not written to this analytics dataset.

Before August 4, 2026, a short excerpt of generated reflection, limited to 160 characters, could also be recorded. That collection is now disabled. Historical Analytics Engine records expire automatically within three months of collection. Because these anonymous diagnostics do not contain an account or device identifier, they generally cannot be located or deleted as an individual user record before automatic expiry.

What Membership Adds

If you use membership features, the site processes information needed to authenticate you, verify subscription status, and keep your journal available across devices.

Service Providers

Cloudflare

Hosts the site and API, provides Workers AI for Oracle Reflection, and provides Analytics Engine for limited service diagnostics. Cloudflare may process standard request information such as IP-based routing, caching, security, and performance data. Cloudflare states that Workers AI customer content is not used to train models or improve services without explicit consent. Read Cloudflare's Workers AI data-usage information.

Google Analytics

Provides GA4 traffic measurement on public pages. The tag is configured without advertising personalization signals and is skipped when Do Not Track is enabled.

Supabase

Handles member authentication and storage for account-backed journal records when membership features are enabled.

Resend

Sends automated account-service, opted-in mailing-list, and operational-notification emails. Resend processes recipient addresses and message content needed for delivery.

Stripe

Handles checkout, billing portal access, and subscription events. Payment card details are processed by Stripe, not stored directly by this site.

How Data Is Used

Operate the oracle. Free casts, daily pages, and site navigation.
Generate Oracle Reflection. Process the current question and reading context to return a reflective response.
Run membership. Sign-in, saved readings, note editing, exports, and billing verification.
Prevent abuse and troubleshoot. Basic logs, rate limiting, and operational diagnosis.
Improve the site. Aggregate usage patterns and performance analysis.

Storage and Retention

Free website readings remain in your browser unless you deliberately share, print, or save them elsewhere. Mobile readings, questions, notes, favorites, settings, and successful reflections remain on the device until you delete them, clear the app's local data, or uninstall the app; operating-system backups may persist according to your backup settings. Oracle Reflection diagnostics expire from Analytics Engine within three months. Membership data remains stored while the account-backed journal feature is active and until records are deleted, exported, or removed as part of account or support handling. Stripe may retain transaction records according to its own legal and financial obligations.

Your Choices

You can use the free oracle without creating an account.
You can use core mobile casting and the local journal offline.
In app version 0.2.1 and earlier, Oracle Reflection sends the reading context automatically when a completed reading first opens online; leaving the question blank prevents question text from being included.
In app version 0.2.2 and later, you first choose whether to allow online reflection or keep readings offline. When consent is enabled, each cast offers Online reflection or Stay offline. You can withdraw consent in Settings at any time to stop future Oracle Reflection requests; existing readings and locally saved reflections are unaffected.
You can delete individual mobile readings or use the app's Local data controls to delete all readings, notes, and favorites from that device.
You can avoid share links if you do not want reading data encoded into a URL.
You can export saved journal records when that member feature is enabled.
You can use the same membership email when requesting account or saved-reading support.
